I feel honoured and privileged to be a GP and to have had the opportunity to make a positive impact in people’s lives. I have learned so much from my patients over the years, including how beliefs and behaviours significantly influence health, wellbeing and quality of life.

I believe general practice should be about promoting optimal health and supporting people to achieve their own personal health goals, in order to feel their best and be able to enjoy their lives as much as possible. Everyone is unique with their own values, circumstances and experiences. Though research can guide us towards what behaviours will improve our wellbeing, there is no one-size-fits-all approach for helping individuals achieve their health goals. 

Lifestyle factors account for around 70% of visits to GP. By providing the evidence-based information and individualised support not only can disease be prevented, but a greater quality and duration of life can be enjoyed – greater physical and mental health."

Dr Adam Smith is a UK-based GP and certified Lifestyle Medicine practitioner with over 17 years experience as a medical doctor. He is passionate about helping people improve their health with an empathic and empowering patient-centred approach.

In addition to providing support for patients, Dr Adam has a wealth of experience in the education of other doctors, students and health care professionals. He is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer for the University of Aberdeen and a Learning Academy Associate and Tutor for the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. In addition to GP work, his other roles include being a military medical examiner and previously a doctor at a Scottish Premiership football club.

He has experience supporting individuals to obtain optimal physical and mental health in order to feel great and perform at their best.
